XEROXICA - a 13 Band Comp - Tape - 1994

This compilation was put out by the ever-stellar Secret Center Records out of Sacramento, CA. In the 90's, they specialized in putting out one-off cassingles by local bands that stayed together for at least 45 minutes. This compilation showcases some of Sacto's finest (?) bands and, inexplicably, looks outside of their insular scene at bands from other states....but only like, one or two of them. Appearances are made by the always entertaining BANANAS, NAR (who deliver my favorite line of theirs "Why is that picture of me taped back together?"), CAPTAIN 9's AND THE KNICKERBOCKER TRIO, LOS HUEVOS and more. If you're into any of the aforementioned bands or just have any interest in the pure nerdiness of the 90's Sacto scene, I'm sure you are already downloading this.
I ordered this tape from Secret Center at some point in the 90's and it took them a full 3 YEARS to send it to me! I called them a few times and even sent my new address every time I moved. I thought I would never actually get it. Three bucks down the drain. Then, one day it finally showed up with an apology letter and I've been loving it ever since.

holy shit. i've been obsessed with going through my tapes in the last month and Xeroxica is one of the ones that's been long without a case or a J-card, but luckily has the sticky label on the cassette itself. i held on to it because i KNOW the cover's around here somewhere, and i knew it woudl turn up as soon as i tossed the tape.
CRAZY timing.

also, i'm about to download everything you've posted so far. GREAT blog. hope you keep it going.

i lived in Ruleville, MS, outside of Cleveland for a year in 2000-2001. wish it would have worked out to stay longer, as i was just making friends with the cool kids before we had to leave.

Cool, I'm glad you are into it. I have piles and piles of shit to put on here so I'll do it until I'm burned out or something..
also, RULEVILLE? whoa! I rode a 4 wheeler to that town once from Cleveland and looked around. It's tiny.

yeah, Ruleville was like stepping into a time machine. Luckily i was there when Ginger was doing shows at the frame shop, and she was actually one of the first punk kids i met after having moved there. i posted for a bit on the Clevetown messageboard, and was totally enjoying it when one of the local regulars there spotted me on DSU campus and mentioned me. the speculation about the new punky guy was fun, but i couldn't stand not knowing anyone so i came out.

awesome, awesome scene and i'm so glad i got to be a part of it.

i shared your blog with a friend of mine this evening, a friend who just moved across the country, dumping a box of old tapes on me, and he said "you've got some of those tapes in your basement." can't wait.

also, i love that you have/use the word Region. i never knew the term existed, but all these bands filled a niche in my head that was totally begging for a descriptive word like that, and i'm glad i now have a word for it.

can't wait for more.

The term "Region Rock" was arguably coined by my friend, Cinque to describe the kind of music that was coming out of the southeast in the mid to late 90's. It fits. It stuck.

If you ever know of anyone else getting rid of boxes of punk tapes, send them my way.

no way dude. they're getting assimilated into my pile.

i've considered making a blog that's like myfriendrobsboxoftapes.blogspot.com and just posting unlabeled untagged 90 min mp3's.

I'm a HUGE Captain 9's fan. I've never heard their track off of this. Any chance of a re-upload?

Thank you very much!

I've lost the digital files (!!!), but I'm trying to track them down.

At the very least I can rip the tape I have and use the liner notes you posted, Greg, to tag them all.

Let me know if you wanna do that.
